After School Activities

After School Activities are an important part of life in Parteen National School. They provide pupils with a wide range of opportunities which complement the academic curriculum, allowing students to take advantage of all the facilities available at our school.

We are very fortunate to have staff who dedicate their time to facilitate after school activities, these include:

Art Club

 

Where is it on?

Leah O’Keeffe runs an art club in her classroom, after school on Friday’s from 2.40pm – 3:40pm

What is involved?

Art and Craft classes give children an opportunity to explore art in a fun and safe environment. We engage in a range of activities using clay, fabric and fibre, drawing, paint and colour, construction and print. It allows children to express themselves and grow in self confidence.


Sport

 

Where is it on?

Our fantastic outdoor facilities allow pupils to participate in after school sport activities. Hockey, Gaelic Football, Hurling, Camogie and Athletics take place on our astro-turf and school yard at various times of the year.

What is involved?

Sport at Parteen National School is inclusive by nature. We have dedicated teachers who volunteer their time afterschool to facilitate these activities. We encourage all students, regardless of skill level or ability, to get involved in physical activity and team sports.

Relax Kids

 

Where is it on?

Siobhán Barry and Laura Corcoran facilitate an afterschool Relax Kids Club

What is involved?

Our Relax Kids classes support children’s mental and emotional health and wellbeing. In our hour long sessions we use a pioneering 7-step, whole-brain holistic approach and fun, magical and creative techniques to help children feel happier and healthier.

The children will build range of tools and techniques to help calm their body and mind, and build confidence and self-esteem. They also have the chance to engage in some mindful arts and crafts.

Speech and Drama Classes

 

Where is it on?

Anita Neville teaches Speech and Drama classes in her classroom, after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2.40pm – 3:40pm. This is available for all children from Junior Infants to fifth class.

What is involved?

The primary focus is the development of the student’s voice and speaking skills. The classes comprise of lessons in poetry recital, improvisation, drama work, mime, public speaking and language games.

Each student will work towards acquiring a clear, interesting voice & develop strong communication skills but will also have the reward of having completed an exam.

The students have the option of entry to Féile Luimní solo verse competitions and entry for grade examinations with The Leinster School of Music and Drama.

Choir

 

Where is it on?

Ms Parkinson facilitates the running of the school choir.

What is involved?

Our multi-award winning school choir is open to any child from 3rd to 6th class who loves to sing. All children are welcome! Choir takes place after school on a Wednesday from 2.40 pm - 4.00 pm, and gives the children an opportunity to develop their singing skills through engaging warm ups and breathing techniques as well as learning a wide repertoire of music. They are given opportunities every year to participate in competitions both locally and in counties throughout Ireland as well as singing in various concerts. Choir provides the children with a wonderful opportunity to sing collaboratively with children from other classes.
